Plan backwards

One of my favorite tricks for planning projects is to plan backwards.

If I'm going to get to my goal, what absolutely has to be in place?

What else?

What else?

And then you just keep moving backwards from there.

Most people make the mistake of planning forwards. That gets them lots of things they think they need to do. Most of them wrong.

Say you want to launch a new course.

What absolutely has to be in place?

Obviously, you need the know what the product is, what the price is, who it's for, and how it'll transform their lives.

Good. You figure that out.

What else?

Well, there has to be a Product in Simplero, so people can buy it.

Check. That takes 2 minutes.

Okay. I probably also need a sales page.

Well, do you now?

You might. But you could also sell just via email. And then send people directly to the checkout page.

But okay, let's say you need a sales page.

Good.

What else?

You probably need to tell some people about it. So let's say email.

And we know people need to hear about it many times before they buy. So let's say you probably need at least 8 emails.

Okay, so you just go into Simplero and do the Opt-In-Sale done-for-you campaign. It has some great starting points for all the emails you need.

What else?

You need a list. So if you don't have that, you'll need to figure out how to build that first.

And with that, you've pretty much got your shortest path to your goal all mapped out.

Sure, you can add more bells & whistles.

But you don't have to.

You know what's needed and what's extra.

Notice what's NOT on the list?

The course content.

That can come later.

As long as you know your stuff, that's a problem for the future to solve.

And if there's one thing we know about future, it's that they're really great at figuring stuff out.

How do you know that?

Because you've figured out everything in your life up till this point.

...

So what's your big project, and what ABSOLUTELY has to be in place for that?
