New Features in Simplero

This week has been a bit quiet in the feature department of Simplero as we gear up for a major release within a month, that'll lift Simplero to the next level for you and your customers. We know that's a bit of a teaser, but at least for another week, indulge us, and we'll start revealing what we've been up to for the last many months.

However, in the mean time, we do have one exciting addition to Simplero this week: an integration with the new version of WebinarJam. Simply use the WebinarJam (2017) integration and you'll be all set. Check out the guide for setting up the integration for all the details.

Renaissance Busines

I'm very fascinated with James Dyson. I read his autobiography about ten years ago, and I very much connected with him, because of his renaissance approach to business and entrepreneurship.

He is both an artist and an engineer. He studied at the Royal College of Art and then later moved to engineering.

Back during the renaissance, the artist was the scientist, and the scientist was the artist. Leonardo da Vinci is a clear example. There wasn't this separation that we've gotten used to today.

I relate, because that's how I've always felt. My first trip to Firenze (Florence for you Americans) was in 1997, and I immediately fell in love with not just the country and the culture, but also all of the cultural output that happened at the time. Such an exciting period of innovation in art and science and engineering, all at once. Such zest for knowledge about life and the world.

That's how I feel about things, too. I consider myself both an artist and an engineer. I think it's very healthy to be both.

I think a lot of people have learned that they're "not good at the art stuff" or "not good at the math stuff" (or engineering or computers or whatever it is), and then they just shy away from it and never really give it a go. I'm not saying we're all equal and the same and are going to be equally good at everything. What I am saying is, there's no reason to hold yourself back from going places even if you don't think you can do it. For years I thought I couldn't cook, or play guitar, or coach. Turns out, that was just a lie.

Incidentally, I was just watching a bit of an interview with James Dyson, and this bit jumped out at me:

... and we can charge a lot for it, and then make a lot of money. And that's important. There's no point in doing a business if it's not going to make a lot of money.

Well said, Sir Dyson. That's a very good point. And a good reminder. I love how just straight-up he is about that point.

According to wikipedia, he has a net worth of about $10 billion. Dammit, I want that, too! :)

No one murdered because of this image!

I had a bit of a recent customer service situation with Dyson, so I wrote an open letter to the man himself. No word on whether he's seen it, but I did hear back from a higher-up today and they're sending me a new battery.

With love,

New Features in Simplero

Sometimes it's super useful to be able to send a broadcast to just one or a few individual contacts. Previously, you've had to either create a separate list or target them with a segment to do this. However, now you don't have to do any of that. Now, you can just add contacts directly as recipients of a broadcast, just like you'd add lists, product participants or segments. Simply go to the recipients list for a broadcast and click Add contact at the bottom of the list to select a customer:

Add single contact

Remember, if you click Backspace and clear the preselected value in the field, you can search in all your contacts. We hope this feature makes your life a lot easier, especially when sending one-offs or testing new broadcasts.

Make it a great week!

Why

We've all heard the phrase "Start with why" by now.

Truth is, it's taken me a while to get to my "why".

Interestingly, I've known it for a while. I guess I've kinda known it always. But that doesn't mean I've owned it, or consciously known it.

Four years, five months, and five days ago, I was living in Mysore, India. It was my birthday, and my wife had invited me for a walk around the lake near the university. She'd prepared a bunch of questions to ask me. Good, deep, inquisitive questions. One of them was, I believe, something along the lines of "if you could do anything, what would it be?" I'm not sure that was the question, because the only thing I really remember is the answer. I blurted out a sentence I'd never uttered, or even thought before: "I want to be a special advisor to the President of the United States on Conscious Nationbuilding." And then I cried.

I cried tears of joy and pride and greatness and feeling small and big at the same time. I cried tears of surprise and confusion. Tears of awe and generosity and relief. It lasted for quite a while, and I've never forgotten that moment.

Since my moment of awakening in 2008, I thought my life purpose was to transform entrepreneurship. And it is. But it's so much bigger than that. I want to redefine how we organize ourselves individually, as well as collectively, at every level, from families to schools to companies to communities to cities to nations to globally. These are the things I'm excited about, and I see possibilities that I have not seen anyone else talk about. It defies any of the current labels as either left or right, spiritual or secular, religious or atheist.

[Side note, when I say "spirituality", I really just mean "reality". Most people don't actually live in reality. They live in a small world constructed of their deeply held beliefs. Their beliefs govern what they can see and experience. They define their world. I really dig just living in the world as it is. It's a pretty darn incredible place, and full of so much beauty and fun and excitement, and sometimes drama.]

The other day, I had a meeting with a potential large customer for Simplero, someone I'm super excited to bring on board, and he asked me what I saw as my purpose and goals. I did notice the fearful voice saying "uh-oh, is he going to think I'm not fully dedicated to Simplero?" but I've long ago decided that there's no point in trying to hide my true self in order to win a customer, so I just told him what I just told you. And he loved it, so much so that he immediately put me in touch with a good friend of his that he thinks could be a good connection in this.

The lesson for me was that starting with why really makes a difference. Of course, it has to be the right why. It has to be the truth. You cannot have a business that you started in desperation just to make a buck, and then slap on some fancy-sounding "why". People are going to see right through that.

If that's the case, much better to just be honest and say "my why is to get rich doing mediocre work while charging a premium", and there are probably people who would respect you for that and buy from you anyway. After all, that's pretty much the "why" for the majority of businesses out there, but most of them aren't honest. Honesty is always refreshing.

Don't be ashamed if you don't know your why. It took me till the age of 43 to really figure out mine, even though I thought I had it almost 10 years ago.

It's never too late. All it takes is an open mind and an open heart. Love and curiosity towards yourself and others. That's it.

Have fun with it!

list-clean-up-medium.jpg

Locating Unengaged (AKA inactive) subscribers is great for a few reasons, one would be to retarget them and get them back into conversation with you and connected to your products and services, or on other hand if they have been in active for a while maybe you want to remove them from your list. Read more about how to find unengaged contacts here.

If you want to clean up your list and remove your inactive contacts, we have a few options for you. Read more here about how to use our new "clean up" feature!

New Features in Simplero

This week sees another small but super useful addition to Simplero: shortlinks. In many cases it's helpful not to have to give people a super long URL to visit (both when giving it physically and on social media, where there are sometimes length constraints), as well as being able to track how many people have visited a page through a channel. You can now create shortlinks in Simplero for exactly this purpose. So, instead of your very long URL, you can now simply give people a link to smpl.ro/yourshortlink and track the visits. To create shortlinks, go to MarketingShortlinks in your administrative interface, or read the full guide on shortlinks.

Blank

20686946_110635209611541_7956240531439222784_n-medium.jpgSometimes when I sit down to write these newsletters, I feel blank.

And I really don't like feeling blank.

I like knowing exactly what to say. I like having all the answers. I like having it all figured out and being able to tell it like it is. I love being right.

But right now I'm drawing a blank, and the best I know how to do is speak the truth.

The truth is, I'm worried that I might write something that doesn't connect. I'm afraid I'll write something, and you're reading it, and it just doesn't seem relevant to your life at all. I'm scared of writing something that's not personal enough, so you can't feel me. I'm terrified of writing something that's too personal, and you feel uncomfortable, or feel like it's just weird that I'm being this personal.

Sometimes writing comes easy to me, and I know exactly what I want to say. But often, it doesn't.

Sometimes I hear what I'm writing, and I can tell it's just well-worn old beliefs that I've spewed a hundred times before, and I'm kinda tired of Calvin824-medium.2.jpglistening to myself saying them. Are they even true, or is it just something I convinced myself of at some point, and now I'm still spouting them?

Today, though I'm blank. I don't know what to write.

I've found that, when I'm blank, it usually helps to start with just speaking the truth: I'm blank. I don't know what to write. I'm afraid what I write won't connect with you...

I want you to know that I love you, and if I could say just that thing that would make you feel whole and complete, and clear in your mind, so you'd know exactly what to do next, I would, in a heartbeat.

That's all I ever aspire to do.

I hope that, at least every once in a while, I succeed.

Twitter Integration, Managing Unengaged Contacts and Tips and Tricks for Your Lists

Join us for Office Hours!

We are excited that so many of you have been joining us for Office Hours! If you are a new Simplero customers, Office Hours is face to face time with us, answering questions about your account, using Simplero in general or specifics. These office hours are free and they're designed to be heavy on the Q&A - we want to get you the answers you need to get into action with your Simplero account. We had another great Office Hours last week and hope you'll join us this week with your great questions!

We are offering Office Hours this Thursday at 10am PST / 1pm EST / 7pm CEST and you can sign up for the date you want to attend right here!

Are you a Simplero VA?

We often get requests for VA referrals who specialize in Simplero. We would love to know who's out there helping our customers with Simplero, as we start a certification program for specialist. If you are interested in becoming a Certified Simplero VA that we can reach out to, we would for you to sign up here! If you aren't a VA, but know someone who does setups, please feel free to share the link with them. You don't need to do this as a full time job to register we want to know you anyway. We will soon send out a few questions to those registered so we can get to know you even better.

Did you know you could do this?

List are very important when building your online business. Here are a few tips on making the most of your lists and contacts. Most businesses will want to have one main email list that they send regular newsletters to. In Simplero, this will be the list marked with a little house next to it. We affectionately call it "The House List".

Many of you will have multiple sub lists with distinct audiences. When you create sublists for events, webinars, or opt-ins, don't forget to add those subscribers to your main list so they receive access to your regular emails and newsletters after the events have ended.  Read more about our suggested Best Practices here!

Email-Library-large.png

Many of you have also asked about how to create a signature to use for newsletters. You can create an email in your Email Library with your desired signature. When you are ready to create your newsletter, click the envelope icon. This will duplicate your email and add it to your broadcasts.  If you use a general flow, outline or signature for emails to various groups or a monthly newsletter, this can help you save time in re creating the same email repeatedly.

New Features in Simplero

This week sees a couple of new additions to Simplero. First off is the first major social integration to hit Simplero: Twitter integration. You can now connect your Simplero account to Twitter by going to SettingsIntegrations and clicking the Connect to Twitter button. With the Twitter connection set up, you can now have Simplero automatically tweet out a link to your blog posts on your site when you publish them:

Tweet blog post when publishing

We're looking to add a lot more integrations like this in the near future, so we'd love to hear which services you think would be the most useful!

In addition to this, we have some great news for those of you who like to keep your list of contacts and subscribers clean and fresh with only engaged contacts. First off, you can now filter the subscribers to a list by whether they have not engaged with your broadcasts in a given period:

Filter by unengaged subscribers

You can use this either to remove those contacts entirely, or for example to move those contacts to another list to run a re-engagement campaign.

If you decide that you want to remove contacts, we've added a new button under the list of contacts in your administrative interface called Cleanup. This tool can help you remove tags from contacts that are otherwise inactive and subsequently remove all inactive contacts from your account. We hope this is helpful in your housekeeping.

Make it a great week!

Many of you are getting started creating your new Space and Products to sell.  Did you know that you can house multiple products within the same space? We do not limit you to the use of one space per one product. This is especially helpful if you have multiple products sold individually as well as sold in a bundle. Check out this guide! Or many you have multiple course that are un-related course that may not all need their own spaces.  Consider putting those courses in one space together as well. Here is a great guide to help you accomplish that as well!  I know, I know... your next question is: How do I make sure a single product doesn't give access to the rest of the courses in the same space? We've got you covered with a new guide on how to restricted access within a shared space for only the product purchased.

Check out these great guides on optimizing your spaces and products in a great new video that explains how to connect your Product to a Space. Watch it here!

New Features in Simplero

Been procrastinating on getting rid of WordPress and moving everything over to your Simplero site? Well, now there's no longer any excuses. This week sees a much requested addition to Simplero: the ability to import your WordPress blog to Simplero. Simply go to the Blog section in your administrative interface for your site and hit the "Import from a Wordpress blog" button, upload an exported dump of your Wordpress blog and we take care of the rest, including importing your categories, comments, images etc.

In addition to this, we've added a few new features to the site itself. First off, you can now allow people to comment on blog posts without logging in, which is great for creating engagement with a less committed lead base by reducing the friction in interacting with your business. Simply check the "Allow comments without being logged in" checkbox in the settings for your site, and you're all set. To combat spam, people will receive an email to verify their comment before it actually gets posted.

Secondly, you can now add shortcuts to your sites. Shortcuts are a way to make and URL on your Simplero site a redirect to some other location. This is great both if you want to give people a shorter URL, or if you're transitioning from another platform (such as WordPress) and want to make sure your old links still work:

Shortcuts

You'll find the shortcuts under the administrative section for your site.

Thirdly, we've added two new choices for sections to your site: a Recent blog posts and a Buttons section. The Recent blog posts section allows you to list a number of the most recent blog posts, for example on the front page of your site, while the Buttons section allows you to easily add stand-alone call to action sections on your pages.

Recent blog posts

The last addition is the ability to hide the header, footer and sidebar on any given page on your site. We know that a lot of you have been wanting to use pages for other purposes than just pure content pages on the site, so with this addition, you now have a lot more freedom. Simply go to the "Settings" tab for a page in the administrative interface for the site, and you can choose which parts of the page you want to hide.

Make it a great week!

Split Testing Broadcasts and Retargeting Your Leads

Join us for Office Hours!

We are excited that so many of you have been joining us for Office Hours! If you are a new Simplero customers, Office Hours is face to face time with us, answering questions about your account, using Simplero in general or specifics. These office hours are free and they're designed to be heavy on the Q&A - we want to get you the answers you need to get into action with your Simplero account. We had another great Office Hours yesterday and hope you'll join us next weeks with your great questions!

Office Hours are Mondays at 10am PST / 1pm EST / 7pm CEST and you can sign up for the date you want to attend right here!

Did you know you could do this?

Targeting leads based off their interaction with you or Retargeting your leads is a great way to drum up sales from warm leads. In Simplero we have a great way to do this automatically via our global triggers function. We have two great options for how to do this with step by step instructions. Read more here

Don't forget to read up on Lead Scores and how to track your customer and see what they are up to!

New Features in Simplero

This week we've added probably one of the most requested features to Simplero: A/B split testing of subject lines in broadcasts. Starting this week, you can now choose an alternative subject line to send out to a subset of your recipients for testing for a time period before the email is sent to everyone, and Simplero will automatically pick the best subject line based on open and click rates:

Split testing

This is all you need to do, and Simplero takes care of the rest. Neat, right? Do note that split testing only makes sense if you have a significant number of recipients, as the results will otherwise be statistically insignificant and half the time tell you the wrong thing instead of the right. So, if you have less than a couple of thousand recipient, don't fret too much about split testing. To those of you who do have a larger number of recipients, split testing can be a very powerful tool in your toolbox. We can't wait to hear what results you guys get from this!

Make it a great week!
